This project was a finalist in an international design tender called by the government of Mexico City to renew the areas lying adjacent to the old Mexico City-Cuernavaca railway line. The project features endemic vegetation and efficient water management, while striving to strike the proper balance between vehicle and pedestrian traffic, which is a key factor in maintaining social cohesion of neighbors. Moreover, local residents taking ownership shall manage upkeep, maintenance and use of the renewed public spaces. The pavement and ground cover approach exploits and array of permeable concrete paving stones, garden and lawn zones, and rubber tiles in playgrounds. Rather than inserting a park, the project design seeks to spurs the creation of a commute stage that involves an array of users and stakeholders.
